On A Wing & A Prayer

I ended that last bog, stating that I am a Registered Republican.  Does anybody know what the heck that means anymore?  As information comes to us in our fast paced world of 37 news channels at one time, I find my self caught in the middle of both parties on most issues.  Does that make me an independent?  Will I have to start wearing cloths made of Hemp?

So what makes a Republican or a Democrat?  From what I know Republicans are typically a little easier going about war and guns…usually hunters.  They are strongly and openly guided by their faith and seen going to services.  So are Democrats godless bunny lovers?  I don’t think so.  I think however that they are more passive, and like to repeatedly weigh their options while they hope the issue will just go away.  I think maybe they are more caught up in corporate America rather then foreign affairs of security.  And lastly, what is an independent?  It has to be more the Ralph Nadar.

I was raised on a Military base, and most of that time under the guidance of the great Ronald Reagan.  I was taught to always trust what our leaders said, no mater what…no questions asked.  I mean how else do you survive in the Military?  I was also raised in a world of readiness…that we could be attacked at any moment and standing up and fighting for your country was the one true honor in life.  I still believe in those things…except for the ‘don’t question our leaders’ part.  That I find more and more acceptable to do every day.  I believe that when and if we are attacked or find ourselves under a direct threat, that we need to act with a quick and decisive reaction.  Hemming and hawing over, ‘golly, what should we do,’ is not the answer.  Nor is the gentle lofting of missiles from a ship off the coast.  We should be swift and decisive, and our actions should make a difference.  In that way I am a Republican.

I think that on the personal issues and family values, I am more Democrat.  My lenient views on same sex marriage and abortion that I spoke about before make me think that I may reside in that particular wing of the house.  I believe that people know how to make decisions that are right for them selves and we do not need our Government creating laws that steer us towards a more ‘acceptable’ moral direction.

Environmentally I think I’m more of an independent.  I believe that neither wing, the right nor the left, is doing a damn thing to help create a better, healthier ecosystem.  For that of course they will one day loose their largest voting populations of Long Island and California to the Ocean as the caps finally melt away and flood the coast lines.

As for the economy, I don’t know what to think.  I think George and Dick have lined their pockets pretty darned good over the last few years, but I’m sure the others have as well.  I felt very strongly that when this current president took the reins, he inherited this horrible economic state that we are in from the eight prior years with Democrat President Elect, Bill Lewinski, I mean Clinton.  (See the Democrats no better then to try and pass themselves off as anyone’s moral compass.)

I guess the moral of the story, or blog in this case, is that we as a people are not so cut and dry.  Right or Left.  Liberal or Conservative.  We are informed, thinking, and most importantly voting adults, and our freedoms, our liberties give us the benefit to run with both herds.  However, come election day in November 2008, we must choose one or the other.  I guess what we have to do, is pick what issues are most important for us as individuals and vote for that guy (or gal.)  Then we cross our legs, count to ten and Pray…(because, like I said before…I am a Registered Republican.)
