Movies

Well, I have been on vacation this week...so armed with my DVR, I have recorded and watched some classic film, that I had never seen.  If I'm going ot be a film critic..this is my duty.

I started with Key Largo.  I have never in my life seen Humphrey Bogard in a movie.  I liked it enough, but I'll be honest...I turned it off.  I guess I watched it too soon after The Departed, and it just had no pizzazz.

Next I watched the classic story, The Secret Garden.  That again was a nice story, but I hated her crippled cousin...what a brat.  It was a nice relaxing movie, but I don't know that I understand why it's a timeless classic...maybe it's better to read.

Moving on I watched all three hours of Peyton Place.  This was a nice rainy afternoon flick.  It was so long, that I got in a good rest on the couch, and it was never gripping or suspenseful enough to get me worked up.  I enjoyed it, but it was nothing to rave about.

I then made my poor husband sit through, A Place in the Sun.  We wanted to see it, because it was based on a true murder from Big Moose Lake...boring.  I watched the whole thing though.  I had never seen Elizabeth Taylor in anything except National Velvet, so I figured I needed to...it was my duty as a lover of the movies.

Next on my list, was Oscar Wild's The Importance of Being Ernest.  I saw the more recent version, and found it light hearted (as Oscar's work is) mocking the uppercrust, and full of their ethnocentrism.

On a lighter side, I watched, two Disney Movies; Alice in Wonderland, & The Aristocats.  Alice is a spoiled brat.  I was irritated with her, and if it weren't for the Un-Birthday Party, I would have turned it off...but instead, I FFW to the parts I liked and then wished the queen had cut off her head.  As for the Aristocats....I loved that movie when I was little, and I still do.  I love the dogs and the silly little mouse...and that Thomas O'Mally....well, he's a cat!

As for the classics....they are nice movies, and I understand why when they were made why they were all the rage....but I am a modern girl, living in a modern world, and as I enjoy and respect the old films.....I like the action of todays movies.  I am spoiled by technology.  The End
