This Weeks Movies in Review

Man of The Year – This was a pretty good movie.  I honestly thought from the previews that it was going to be a lot more of an in your face comedy, but a friend warned me that it was not exactly what we were thinking…so we were prepared.  It was in fact funny during the scenes where he (Robin Williams) was either hosting his fake news show or during some of his ranting speeches.  As someone who loves The Daily Show, I got a kick out of the political comedy and enjoyed the solid points he made as to what is wrong with our government…the special interest groups, and the lobbyist etc.  His character made some excellent points, and I think the movie showed the risk of on line voting.  I hope our Government was watching. *** I Liked It

Pursuit of Happyness – This movie I thought was good.  I loved the determination, and that he was not prepared to give up, but rather go out after life.  Through nothing but hard work, come hell or high water, or bathroom floors, as the case may be, he was going to better his life.  I wish more people would learn from this man’s internal drive. *** I Liked It

School For Scoundrels – It was alright.  Funny, but not killer.  I LOVE Todd Philips movies and was excited, but there just wasn’t enough to this movie to keep it going.  I don’t know if it was the story itself, or if was the lack of his normal off the wall, raw comedy, but it just wasn’t as good as the rest.  I was excited when Ben Stiller showed up, but then again, he could have been utilized much better.  I was then disappointed by the corny Anger Management moment in the terminal...it was all an elaborate set up to make you succeed crap.  I was relieved when it turned out not that way after all.  I say if you like comedies, rent it…you will laugh…just don’t expect an Old School laugh.  ***I Liked It

Shooter – This was a good movie.  Excellent cast, great story, and not a lot of unbelievable twists and unreal events.  Mark Whalberg was a hero to root for, while Danny Glover was disgusting enough to want to see him shot.  I say go see it or rent it as soon as it comes out.  ****I Loved It
