Is it normal to Hate Chapter one? 

I hate my first chapter of my next book.  I don't think it grips the reader. 

But I used to like it....I remember way back when...when I first started this project that I liked it.  I liked the characters.  It wasn't spell binding, or grabbing you by the shirt collar, screaming KEEP READING!!  But I liked it enough.  Now it is just bla. 

I'm wondering if it's because I have read it at least one hundred and thirty seven times.  Now that the manuscript is complete and I am riffling through it for changes.....I want to trash it and start over...which I will not. 

Maybe it's just like your favorite song.  You hear it so much that you become complacent.  You flip the channels....You hear Your Song, so you turn it up, and then your mind wonders away and you never even sing a lick.  Maybe I have just re-read it so much that I can't pay attention to it anymore.

I'm gonna go on that notion....the fact that it just sucks is too depressing.
