Becoming Jane, The Bucket List, Martian Child, Gone Baby Gone
This was the best movie weekend in a VERY long time! All were hits with us!
Becoming Jane - This was probably my least favorite of the four, but I liked it none the same. If you like Period movies then this one is one for you. My displeasure in this movie is really my own fault. I honestly did not know the story of Jane Austen and found myself constantly feeling like they were getting Pride & Prejudice all wrong. I felt like the director was trying to recreate that tale and found myself very disappointed, until about half way through the movie when she begins to pen P&P...that's when it occurred to me that that story was a very close resemblance of her own life events and that she was in a way...Elizabeth Bennett. Once I made that connection, I found myself enjoying this a lot more. It was a good movie....Ann Hathaway is somewhat believable as an English girl, and the rest of the cast pulls their weight. Like I said, if you like Period movies, and Love Jane, then rent it and you won't be disappointed.
The Bucket List - I was SO glad we went to see this movie...Truly terrific. I expected it to be funny, but on the way out the door, someone said it was sad....so then I was scared. Jack and Morgan are great together (sounds like a line up in a bar doesn't it?) they are both superb actors that are comfortable in their own skin, and amazing at what they do. You feel for these characters. You revel in their accomplishments, and feel the demise of their defeat. They are terrific against one another. You will Laugh, you will cry, and then of course, you will laugh so hard you'll cry. This movie was great. It teaches you to live every single second of your life, and that even though you may have some regrets, and your life may not be exactly what you thought it would be, you still should take the time to look around each day and appreciate what you do have. Great movie!!
Martian Child - OMG I loved this movie. Such a wonderful message....Love the children that are already here, and just the way they are. I love John Cusack from 16 Candles through Ice Harvest....(hey, they can't always be winners...lol.) But this movie was just terrific. I thought Houston's point at the party, where Cusack's character has his big epiphany, was a bit over done. She says, "Why can't you just be what we want you to be?" which of course makes him stop and realize how he has been asking this small boy to do the same thing. The entire movie stops at that moment. It was little Disney movie-ish. I think it would have been better to keep every thing else movie around them and only have Cusack stop for his earth shattering realization, but that was the only odd moment I found in this entire flick. The rest was perfect! Let the children be who they are and help them become who they will be. Don't get in their way. Support them. Love them. We're all defected toasters.....you just can't send em back. RENT THIS!
Gone Baby Gone - I liked this movie. I was worried. Ben Affleck involved, and if you have ever read my reviews, you know I hate him....he couldn't act his way out of a parking ticket. But Casey Affleck...well little brother might just be the saving grace for that family. He was terrific...and can actually do a Boston accent...unlike his brother.... Now this one again, is one where you need to follow the names....and as you know that's where I often get lost in, drug lord, mafia, dirty cop movies....so when Affleck's character starts to ask questions to put this thing all together I got a little lost, because I didn't know who they were talking about...but it very quickly and clearly comes together. After the first hour, the little girl is lost....then I thought, holy Christ what are we going to do for the next hour, but it didn't disappoint. There was MUCh more to the story. This thing had a lot of twists..but good twists, that you just DO NOT see coming, and best of all, they are believable twists. This was a good movie, and I think gathered two things from this in the end....1 - Morgan Freeman is in every single movie I watch, and 2 - Big brother Ben belongs behind the camera, not in front of it. Rent it, it's good!

I watched the Bucket List. This may sound a little shallow but one of the things I've listed in my bucket list is to watch all films which won in the Best Foreign Language Film category in the Oscars.

I don't think that's shallow at all....I find it challenging and kind of admirable....especially considering I have climbing a rock wall on mine!
