Snow White...Dirty Ground
I know when I am out on the roads after a snowfall, I am wondering where the sanders are, but as I sit here in my home and daydream out my window, I wish they would just stay locked in the town garage.
The snow fall was heavy and consistent throughout the day yesterday and all last night, and we awoke we found a gorgeous white blanket snuggly set upon the earth. The snow is thick and heavy with the lake's effect in every flake. It sits undisturbed on the tree branches, weighing them down until the tallest oaks resemble weeping willows. The mailboxes have all but disappeared in the banks, and even the animal's tracks carved gently into the top crust somehow don't disturb the sheet of white cotton perfection.
The snow plow has been by pushing with all their force. Driving the snow from the pavement up to the sides, creating contrasting almond shaded snow banks along the road's edge. They create a barrier at the end of each long driveway with authority, as to say, 'stay inside...do not attempt to leave today.'
It is remarkable.
The beauty is so serene.
It's the type of day that makes you wish for your hot chocolate, a giant cozy sweatshirt and a large down blanket to wrap yourself in.
Sadly however, we do have to leave. We all, at some point, must disturb such perfection. We must clean our driveways, our walks, our cars, and then finally pollute this flawlessness with the disruptive sounds of our automobiles.
Alas, we will drive through it.
And for that....we require the sanders.
The sanders drop their dirty brown grains on the crisp, clean wonderland, offering just one more reminder that we live here...that we inhabit this earth...and therefore....bound to create the un-pretty....bound to destroy it.
If only they could stay in their garages....if we could all stay put and just enjoy what God and Mother Nature has concocted for us on this beautiful day.
