Oh The Family Drama

Wow what a morning...riddled with excitement, as well as shock, fear...and then excitement again.

Oh the family drama ... the baby fish saga continues...

This morning as I sat and chatted with my husband in the office, I noticed a tiny little spec floating in the tank with direction...well it wasn't floating at all!  It was swimming!!  We had another baby!  We watched it swim all around the tank, examining how tiny and almost transparent it's little body was.  We discussed a name for it.  Coming exactly one week after we discovered Wednesday, we pondered our options.

Then suddenly without cause, we both watched as the larger orange fish (potentially the mother or father to the wee one) chase it around the tank...and then in one gulp...it was Gone!  It ate it's baby!!!  At least we think...we're both pretty sure that it sucked it in and ate it.  I sat in shocking dismay as my husband frantically began looking all over the tank for it.  It was gone.  Finally Brett called off the search, remarked on now we don't have to name it, and went to bed.

Then, just as suddenly as it was gone...I yelled out...."there he is!!" Brett of course came running in his under britches as we examined the cave carefully...there it was, a wee little fishy.  Then from the back side of the rock, I spotted yet another.  There were TWO!

Our dear sweet Wednesday is growing larger every day and barely need to hide under the turtle anymore....and who knows if the parent ate the other one....but we have two more swimming around.  Brett suggested that maybe the other fish held him inside then opened his mouth and let him back out...like a whale he said...I asked like Pinocchio?  Who knows...I just hope the new little ones stay hidden until they are a bit larger and not such delectable looking meals.

Now we may have two more to name!  Any suggestions?
