Griffiss Terminal

Tuesday I took my daughter to "Mohawk Glen Medical Center"  to get some routine blood work done.  As I drove to Perimeter Rd. however, I was driving to a place I know as the Officer's Club

Base realignments suck for those of us that grew up within it's presence.  What was once a Nobel protector...a front line to nuclear deterrence, is now open to the public.....sadly, it is a business park.  Where streets were once closed off to even the enlisted that did not have proper security, they now boast a sign that reads, "Terminal."  I wondered as I drove past if they are referring to the Oneida County Air Port Terminal, or if it's referring to the current condition of Griffiss Air Base.

At least one Bomber remains.  One proud B52 sits by the old Mohawk entrance reminding all that travel through, that we were here.  That Brave men and women along with their families once protected their country from this very spot.

I miss the Griff.

You might want to add here that your dad knew the crew chief of that plane. His name is Frank Harris. Also that the names of EVERY person who served at Griffiss is on a list INSIDE that plane. Makes me very proud!!!!
