Ya Get 6 Weeks George
The news of George Carlin's death was very sad to hear yesterday. What's funny, is that Saturday I was telling someone about the HBO bit I saw of his where he talks about letting your kid play with a stick. That same morning Ellie and I watched Thomas the Tank Engine and I was surprised to learn that he had narrated that episode.
Carlin was a very, very smart, intriguing, thought provoking individual. Where he may have had his problems and certainly offended many over the year, he was genuinely funny; both in his stand up and on the big screen. He shocked the world every time he opened his mouth, but most of the time...like any good comedian...he said what most of us were thinking. He had a very poignant view on the world and all that inhabit it. He had definite thoughts on politics, kids, organized groups, and our lives in general. I don't think there was a topic that he didn't cover at some point.
Just recently I heard him talking about death and how people handle it. He said he gives everyone six weeks before he crosses them out of his address book. Now he's not in mine of course, but I'm sure there are plenty of people all over the world that will be giving him "6 weeks."
I'll miss him. I always enjoyed him and hope to catch him time and time again in re-runs.
Goodbye George.
