Wheelers
Jennifer and Alec had gotten a 3 wheeler. I had never even seen one before let alone driven one. I was however, raised in Uncle Hib’s snowmobile shop, so I figured the 3 wheeler couldn’t be that much different. Their dad along with Alec had created a trail system in the woods. Keep in mind that back then people didn’t post every acre. We were free to travel about as we pleased. They picked me up one day on the back of it, (we were small so we all fit on board, 3 and 4 at a time.) Jennifer drove us out and showed me the trails. Then she got off to let me drive. I didn’t know the throttle would be that sensitive. I punched it in just as Jennifer was climbing on the back behind Alec. That thing went straight up in the air into a wheelie and Jennifer fell right off the back. That was a good laugh after I was done being terrified of what I had done. They would go through many 3 and 4 wheelers through the years and we would rake all kinds of havoc aboard them. We would play Hide and seek, we would race, we were always building more forts, and in general just adventuring into the unknown.
The main trail left behind their house and went through the creek. Feet UP! Part of it would take me to my back yard. That was a narrow part of the trail though, so usually I would get dropped on the other side of the creek and had to leap over and hike my way in.
One time, I was hiding up in a tree over the 4 wheeler. When I heard Alec coming I thought I would John Wayne it down. I jumped from the tree and landed on the seat of the 4 wheeler. I never did that again as long as I lived. That was not a pleasant event and I wish not to share anymore detail then that.
