The Treasure Hunt

One Time in particular we got Alec really good.  Off of the beaten path out in the woods was an old burned out barn and silo.  We were kind of scared of that place and were told to stay away from it, but we ended up there anyway from time to time.

Jennifer and I had a plan.  Her mother helped us make up a treasure map.  We designed it on a crumpled piece of paper bag and her mom burned the edges of it to make it look like it had gotten singed in the fire.  Then Jennifer and I snuck back into the silo remains and hid the map so that only part of it was showing.

Later that same day, because we had no patience at all, we took Alec back there.  We were so cool about it, not to let on to anything.  We snuck inside the silo and were sitting there talking when, low and behold, Alec spotted the map.  He was so excited!  He read the map and figured out where we were and where the treasure was buried.  We got just as excited as him (mostly because we were pulling off the best scam ever).  We followed the map to the letter and of course it led us to the spot (I’m not sure if there was an X to mark it or not.)  Alec got right into digging.  Of course we helped.  He pulled up what we had buried there and was thrilled that he had found a buried treasure.  At the same time he was also disappointed that it was only a quarter (probably my life’s savings).  Mid rejoicing Smart Alec, noticed 1982 on the Quarter!  I will never forget his face.  He was so livid with us.  Jennifer and I started laughing at him, he ran home and told his mom...who of course new everything, so she was laughing too.

I don’t think he spoke to us for days, but it was so worth it!
