The Ski-boose
One year, my parents and Uncle Ron would in go halves to purchase a Ski-boose. This was a little tag along; tow behind sled for kids to ride in. If you are a snowmobiler today or have ever seen one of these contraptions you might think, that’s not too bad.
Wrong.
The nicely enclosed buggies that you see today are like tugging your kid around in a Cadillac compared to what we were dragged in. Ours was more like a.... well, a Yugo.
At first I was very excited about the prospect of a nice slay ride through the country. No more sitting behind Mom or Dad, holding on, nodding off from the rhythm of the trail and nothing to look at but someone’s back...occasionally falling off. This enthusiasm however would soon dwindle.

Let me paint you a picture. The Ski-boose had one small seat in it facing forward that should fit two people, but we made it take three. There is barely a windshield let alone an enclosure of any kind to break the wind. They would pack us kids in there as tightly as we could with everything under the sun. We would be in our normal suited attire, but we would also be wrapped up tightly in blankets (yes, AF issue green wool blankets) and then they would stuff in everything else; wherever it could fit. The hot-dogs, the cocoa, our sleds, extra spark plugs, belts...whatever they might but never did need! We were shoved in there and we weren’t moving to scratch our own noses until they unpacked us at our final destination.
Just sitting there, with the wind cutting straight through...
