Sleep Overs

Back on E. Carter Rd....

We were together everyday, but rarely ever spent the nights over each other’s houses.  When it would get late and the day was done, our Mom’s would turn on the outside lights and stand at the door watching for us.  We would walk the other halfway across the yards and then we would turn and run home as fast as our legs would carry us.  We were complete scardy-cats out there after dark.  But in our defense the Coy Dogs were always making noise off in the woods.

One Time, I do remember spending the night over their house.  I was privileged to see Jennifer in all of her Head Gear glory.  Sure, she has perfect teeth now, but I know why!  She put on the gear and we watched The Elephant Man.  That is a freaky story, however it deeply effected me.  I think of that movie as my first lesson about humanity.

I'm not a monster......
