Often I wonder how long we have to be a nation before we are going to be aloud to be our own race? 

People always say...'oh you know us Irish'....or 'well, she's Italian ya know?'

How long do we have to live in this country that was founded 232 years ago to just be "Americans"...no prior heritage to speak of? 

We are such a hugely mixed group of people....the melting pot right?  Hell my family has mixed in so many directions that I have no idea where my ancestors departed from originally 200 plus years ago...nor do I really care. 

So why do we have to be from a certain original background anymore?  I'm pretty sure that those characteristics have warped and changed over the years.

When I was a kid my Dad told me that I was an American and just that....so I find myself contemplating this very thing.  How many generations have to pass by before people stop asking what you are?

I know the answers to all of this....I'm not looking for clarification or anything...this is more of me just thinking a loud.....I do get it ....it's fun to wear a T-shirt that says your proud to be Irish, but....I'm proud to be an American.
