Way To Go Westmo
I have to say, we are all proud of Westmoreland these days.
I know that all of our sports teams are very competitive....but we have some distinguished athletes this fall.
First off, our unbeaten Bulldogs went on to be Undefeated Section III Champs at the Carrier Dome two weeks ago. They were on fire! And we are all so proud of them. Last weekend however they were finally conquered by a Notre Dame team from the southern tier. A sad end to a perfect season. But regardless, they have titles and a record that no one can ever take from them. They are still our Dawgs!
As for the other group I want to rave about....my little cheerleaders...not so little any more I guess. I coached Pop Warner C Team cheerleaders for 5 years. As I parted with the group last fall, most of my team was moving up to the older "A" squad. Each season my girls became better, more determined and more talented...but always, we fell short of advancing in competition. Last year we were at our very best, but we were penalized very hard for illegal stunts. I had the girls take a "V" sit and place the flyer into the hands of two 'new' bases that would then walk them in a circle and finally bounce them up to a prep and cradle down. We did not one of these, but two simultaneously....perfectly! I was so freakin proud of them. Welp, it turns out that your flyer can not switch bases...so the minute their little feet hit the hands of the Prep bases, they were illegal and points were deducted. I looked it up later to find that those stunts can only be preformed on an advanced level....so once again let me reiterate...we did TWO...Simultaneously!! They were rock stars! However....that knocked us out of contention for regionals.
This year however...all my favorite cheerleaders rocked on with their new A Squad, and not only advanced to Albany for a state Competition, but they placed high enough that they continued on to New Jersey this past weekend (the same time our Bulldogs were fighting for their playoff lives) They rocked Jersey hard! In the end they would miss advancing to the finals in Walt Disney World by 4/10ths of a point. That's pretty damn awesome!
I love these kids....They got heart...they got motivation....they got drive.....they are all bad asses and we are ALL PROUD!
Good Job Westmo!

I wish I had gotten the chance to play there...would have been pretty special.
