What's Your Best Gift Received?
I got this question posed to me the other day on one of those 20 question emails.
What is the best gift you ever received?
Well there are a few of automatic answers to that.
My husband would expect me to not hesitate to say my engagement ring for Christmas 1995.
My parents will say, my first horse, Christmas 1985.
Others will expect me to say my daughter.
Where as Ellie is the very best gift ever, EVER given....it's not quite the same. It's not like someone was out shopping and thought of me so they picked her up for me. So where she was given to us, and is the very best "gift" I don't know that she really qualifies in this gift boxing giving, object line of questioning.
So...Christmas?....it's a toss up between the ring and the horse....both were perfectly special in their own way, and both cherished in my heart forever.
Now, how about a Non Christmas present....?
Honest to God, the best gift my husband ever gave me...was my mushroom.
It's even better then the ring.
See he was at the family camp a week before our anniversary one year. We were tight on cash and the present to one another that year was probably just going to be a nice dinner. However, while doing something outside at the camp he kicked a mushroom off the side of a tree. His friend then pointed out how displeased I would have been by him killing a living thing for no reason at all. My husband quickly agreed and picked it up...he pulled out his pocket knife and carved "Michelle I love You" in it. When he got home that Sunday, he sprayed it with lacquer and gave it to me on September fourteenth.
This is the very best gift ever given to me thus far. It's simple. It's personal. It came from the heart. And it tells me that he knows who I am. I love it and I look at it each and every day.
.....I told you I was simple.....
