Let The Quest for All-Arounds Begin!

Fox and I continued on with my local show tour.  We mostly became familiar with one another at Tantivy Shows where we ended the season with high point awards in both the Jr. English and Jr. Western Divisions.  That alone made me very happy.  Tantivy as we knew it was coming to a close, so I felt like we were going out with a bang.

The next big step for us was the New York State Fair.  I had now become the 'all-around' kid and entered every class in my division I thought I could survive...a trend that poor Fox would suffer through until I finally realized that I didn't need all of those coolers and ribbons and my life would be much easier if I just rode in the things we enjoyed and won.  I did however show in every class that year at the 89' Fair and never won a single class.  Highest I took was second place Under Saddle.  I did however win the All-Around Championship for the weekend in the Quarter Horse Novice Youth Division.  This was the first time I ever met Christy Stoddard and family.  Showing Jeremiah Dovetail, she had won quite a few of our classes and her father protested my cooler winning championship.  What they calmly pointed out to him in the show office was that I had placed well in EVERY class, which gave me more points.  Despite this bumpy introduction, Christy would go on to become one of my best friends and would be by my side for "the" cooler we were awarded later on.

My inability to sit up still haunted my dreams however and Sherry Volo came up with a plan to fix me once and for all.  For the Empire Fall Show in
Syracuse, Shelley Kinne played dress up with me, dolling me up in her western attire while Sherry presented me with the belt buckle of all buckles!  It was a large square gold piece that took up most of my midsection.  Every time I leaned forward it pierced my ribs.  I sat very well from that point on.

In 1989 to my dismay AND my protest, Jim decided to sell Tantivy Farm to people that raise five gated horses.  Eventually we would end up at Windy J Stable in
Sauquoit, NY.  This was a much smaller place and we never actually fit in, but we made it work the best we could.  My best friend Danielle had moved her horse there so I followed with no where else to go...

        ...at least until things broke...
