White Lime
Last Sept we took Fox to see the super group of farriers in training at Cornell University to treat the White Lime disease he had contracted in his hoof.
They cut away most of his front left hoof, soaked it several times in disinfectant, blow torched it, and then created an entirely new hoof for him to walk on. He seemed to be doing quite well.
Last Thursday our farrier took off his shoe on that foot and cut away the last piece of fake hoof to grow out...I had told him that the hoof looked odd to me...like it had a bubble on that previously infected side. Sure enough...Same exact thing! Jim took off the shoe, saw that and tacked it right back on...call Mike at Cornell he told me.
So they fit me in yesterday and treated Fox well. It was the same scenario. Mike said it only takes one fungus spore to infect the whole foot. So he went through the entire process again and then they trimmed up the other feet planning to put the same Glue on shoe on his other front foot to make him walk even ( I of course had a Little House flash back to the kid with uneven legs) When they cut into the front right hoof, they found trace of the white lime there as well. So the good news is they caught it before it could spread.
So Fox had both feet treated and gets to go back in 7 weeks to have it redone. Poor ole' boy...he did not want to get back on that trailer...You'd never know he was a veteran show horse....or maybe it's my driving....
But here's what I was reminded of yesterday on my very long road trip...
1. My horse is Awesome!
2. Thelma has no OFF button
3. Where you point the Truck, the trailer will follow! (if your lucky that is)
That last piece comes from the Hank Wiggins book of bus driving logic.

OMG!!! You're so mean!!! I do so have an off button! You told me to "read my book" and I did!!!

That was a fantastic synopsis. Congratulations and thanks for stirring up old memories, my time in that walk of life was shortlived but as they say...everything happens for a reason.
