Sunshine and Honey
My girlfriend called me last night with a wonderful story...
First however, let me give you the back story...
Danielle's older sister and her family have raised a baby deer for the last two seasons. Two years ago they found baby Sweetie and took her in. Her trips out in to the woods got longer and longer and eventually she did not return. Last spring she was called about another fawn found in Deansboro. They took in Honey as well. Honey was a wonderful deer that, just like Sweetie lived right in the house with them and the many dogs. Both fawns went outdoors with their dogs to rough house and 'relieve' themselves. They slept on their beds and ate Goldfish crackers right out of everyones hands. It was a beautiful thing.
Honey would eventually wander off as well.
Last week, roughly a mile from the hobby farm home a baby deer was once again found...seemingly abandoned in the road side ditch. A neighbor contacted our friends and they brought Sunshine home to live. After only a couple of days, Sunshine was not house breaking well and urinating on their new carpeting. Sunshine was moved into the barn when they were not able to be there with her to contain her to the kitchen.
As my friend's sister entertained some friends that had stopped by for a visit, she noticed a large deer stroll casually out of the woods. Without fear or hesitation the doe walked right up to Jodie. She navigated through the dogs and other on lookers with no concern at all. She allowed her to stroke her coat and kiss her on the nose.
Jodie knew Honey instantly.
After a brief greeting, Honey walked down to the barn behind the house...her bag full. She collected her baby fawn and the group watched as they strolled away together into the rough as casually as Honey had emerged from it. Not far inside the thick brush, together they laid down disappearing from sight.
Now isn't that a beautiful, true story?

This is truly a wonderful story that brings the feeling and misty eye of "wonderful" to anyone who enjoys nature and the animals it has to offer. Truly unbelievable and moving. I am a very lucky reader of this story as I have met and fed "Honey"!

I loved the story and because I know your Mom, Thelma, from high school makes it even more special. You did a great job writing it and I just wish there were pictures accompanying the story of each deer taken in to care for.
Thanks,
Bev Wood
