Garth At The Fair

When ever someone mentions the Great NY State Fair, I cringe and add one response, "I Hate The Fair."

I guess it's years of showing there that have messed me up.  The crowds of people.  The filthy tables and food areas.  The People.  The people waiting to be tipped in the bathroom.  The Carnies!!

It's not all been bad though.  I did win my first QH All Around at the Fair.  And I did meet one of my best friends there...when her father hunted us down to make us explain how I won the all around! There was the Clint Black concert...Def Leppard....Styx...Def Leppard...Boston...REO...Def Leppard!  LOL

Then there was Garth.

No...I have never walked through the gates with a ticket in hand and seen a Garth Brooks concert.

No....my experience was much more awesome...(well at 16 it was)

Years ago the Fair opened on a Friday, however Quarter Horse exhibitors arrived on Thursday (that was nice..although the carnies scared the SH*T out of me)  The one year Garth Brooks preformed at the fair the night before it opened.  Sold out of course.

I rode my beautiful QH around the holding pen by the coliseum on Thursday night as we heard the music beginning.

It wasn't long before we realized it was Garth Brooks that we could hear as clear as day!

So there I sat on my horse in my Crates western saddle as Fox, Christy and I listened to the music pouring over the stadium fence and across the midway.  Eventually we took a chance that Fox could handle it....perhaps we figured even he would understand the summoning call of the incomparable Garth Brooks, and we walked on horse back over to the stadium entrance.

We sat for a very long period of time as we listened to the Thunder Roll and the crowd loose their minds at the excitement of the show.

It was a remarkable experience that I will never forget.

Would I have loved actually being there and watching it live?  Sure.  But I got to hear Garth Brooks on horse back, and not many people get to actually say that.

It only made sense anyway for all the times Fox had to listen to Christy and I sing it horribly off key....with our hand gestures to every word of every song!  LOL

"He never hit the brakes when he was shifting gears!"
