Solace and Safety

Do you have in your life that set, or those sets I should say, of eyes where you always feel safe.  The eyes you can look straight into and not worry about what they are seeing when they look back at you?

Maybe your not like me.  Maybe you look everyone straight in the eye and never worry what they see or what they are thinking.  I on the other hand, still believe, that if I'm not looking at them, then they of course can not see me.  I hate when people look at me.  Especially for too long.  I hate those people that stare intently at you while you speak, and then when your done talking, they continue to stare...it's like their feeble little mind is still trying to wrap itself around what was just said.  Makes me nuts...Look Away Already!!

Regardless of this, there are still the safe eyes.  The ones you look to when you get uncomfortable, scared, depressed, or maybe you need a quiet little unspoken celebration.  Maybe they're just the only good place to look.  And sometimes, they are all about communication.  The look that speaks worlds between you without a single spoken word.  Without even a funny look of the eyes...just the contact makes you know that you were both thinking that.  Some are the eyes of a good friend, maybe a husband or wife...a child.  Or even a pet.

What made me think of this odd little mental notation was an eye lock with our eldest dog, Jr.  Jr. has never and will never judge me.  He has loved me unconditionally since the day he was born and I cleaned the yuck from his little nose and held a cloth to his bleeding belly button.  Jr. and I communicate regularly without ever a word, and on most occasions, his gaze is a place of solace.  A content, safe harbor in any crazy storm.  Their big, soft and deep brown...and I love to travel into his eyes when ever the world has me rolling mine.  I guess that's just one more part of him is truly woman's best friend.
