1St Ballet Class!
To continue the Sept. 14th saga, Ellen and I next had to get ready for her first ever Ballet lesson!
Just before 4 pm I told her it was time to get ready and we had to start with her hair. She hesitantly slid off the couch... In case this has never been mentioned, Ellie hates her hair even brushed let alone pulled up, but Ballet law states they must be in a bun. My little girl sat on the floor in Daddy's lap (after some squirming and running) and she aloud me to pull it up. This was not my best work by any means, but my husband was very impressed with the whole process. A quick sprits and we were set!
Next I grabbed her dance bag where we kept the "good" leotard, tights and her shoes. I helped her carefully into each leg of the tights and she couldn't get over how they felt! Next I pulled out the leotard and we slid that on. Once again she raved about the way it fit her. She even, get this...posed for a picture with mommy! (course the camera never goes off at the right time, so who knows what's that like!)
We slid her sparkly white shoes on and her Ellen sweatshirt and we were out the door. Pre School was one thing, but it took everything for Brett & I both not to weep at the sight.
I found the studio on Clinton Street but there was no parking! I turned around and went back. There very clearly was a driveway to a rear parking lot, but someone had parked the Honda Accord in front of it. I slid in sideways behind the Accord and parked it. Ellen proudly strutted up the steps. We walked in through the double doors and in front of us was a huge dance studio with people practicing. Ellen stood in the doorway with her mouth slightly open and watched, she pointed, she talked about them. She was in complete awe... It was magnificent!
Miss Stephanie came in and introduced herself and met Ellen. Next came Al (Alexandra) the other nice teacher. We went into the waiting room on the side and switched her into her fancy ballet shoes, where she jumped up and began showing them both her moves. It was insane! She was in love with the attention. Then she pointed her toe bending it behind her noticing the dancer on her shoes. She pointed it out to the girls, and she said, "it says ballet!" They also informed me that there would be a "Bun" class coming soon. lol
The rest of the class began arriving, and someone spoke about the cars parked across the driveway and I quickly remembered! We identified who had the Accord and we went out to move the cars. When I went back inside they had moved all of the kids to the downstairs studio. Ellen was sitting all alone in the middle of the big dance floor. I think she was in her heaven... The other girls joined her and the class began!
My little girl followed very little direction, as she showed off her moves in the giant mirrors. I text Brett at one point and told him we may need to mirror the house! They sat in a circle and worked on sitting up tall, good toes, bad toes, and arm movement. Next they trotted off to the corner where they were each handed a fairy stick to tip toe across the the floor and back again. Next was trapping the mouse! They stood with the feet together to trap the mouse, then opened their toes (to first position) and let the mouse out! Next they did some exercise with a bird where they started on the floor in a ball, and lastly they rocked a baby swaying from side to side, and then a freeze dance with a scarf. Ellen had a BLAST!!
I know what we need to work on, so we will definitely be doing some home practicing. I also talked with her about listening better to Miss Stephanie. But altogether I have never seen my daughter so in love with anything in her three years. She just loved ballet class and asked when she gets to go again! Yeah!!!
