My Backwards Angel

Saturday morning I tossed my daughter a sweater, socks, and a pair of blue jeans.  I told her to get dressed so we could get our day going, then I went to my room to brush my teeth and top my look off with a base ball cap.

I ventured back into her room and she was all dressed (to my pleasant surprise) but I noticed her jeans were on backwards.  I knelt down in front of her telling her she did great, but her pants were not on right.  As I began to tug them down, she grabbed on to them and told me with certainty, "no."  That was the way she liked them and that's how she was going to wear them.  Well dressing is a big issue for us, so my thought process was simple... kids got weather appropriate clothes on.  Let's go!

So off to the Farmer's Market and the Stable we went... pants CLEARLY on backwards!  She got a couple of cute remarks from the older ladies in town, and a "Way to go" from Kate at the barn!  She was a hit in her backwards Jeans.   As long as she was happy

So tonight Ellie actually opted for Pajamas at bed time.  I was shocked and played along.  She pulled out a white long sleeve top that reads  'Angel' on the front, and boasts pink wings on the back (that Ellie called a butterfly)  The pants to that top were in the dirty laundry, so she grabbed orange striped shorts.  okie dokie...  She looked for the opening to pull on the top, and I flipped it over for her.  "The butterfly goes on the back," I told her.

"No I want the words on my back."

okay...

She then pulled on her shorts. I watched quietly as she pushed each leg through their perspective holes.  Then as she, still sitting, grabbed the crotch of them and pulled it from side to side repeatedly trying to verify that her legs were in separate sides of the shorts.  Then she got to her feet... as she fumbled for the waist band to pull them up, I just kept thinking... they're on backwards.  Finally she flipped the waste enough for me to spot the tag.  Low and behold... they were indeed backwards too.

I said nothing.  I watched my backwards clad kid trot merrily down the hallway ironically with Angel tattooed across her back like a ball player.

Kids too cute!

And I knew it all didn't matter.  For one, she was happy.  And two, I knew they weren't gonna be on long.  We read the story of Princess Belle and her unhappy horse Phillipe and then she was naked... again...  as always...

Good Night, sleep tight!
