Brett's Life

Brett decided today to work on establishing some authority in our home.  He always has a vote - a say in things, but when it comes to parenting... he prefers the passive, non confrontational approach... so I was pleasantly surprised today when I received a text in the barn from him that he was - 'a real dad because he had sent her to her room.'

The story I got was that all was well, until she asked for ice cream.  Usually Brett scoops it right up for her, no matter what, but today he told her no, not until after dinner.  Ellen went into a fit of "I said give it to me rightnow (that's one word in Ellen land)" and "you better listen to me... bla bla bla..."  Finally he said enough and sent her to her room.

YEAH BRETT!

To my displeasure, 5 minutes later I received another text complete with a picture of her asleep in her bed... at five in the afternoon.  [this will not end well for ME later]

I came home to find my husband slicing boneless chicken for Taco night and learned the whole story, then went to wake her up.  I greeted her cheerfully and tried desperately to put a positive spin on her waking up, but she was still upset and began the wailing.  I walked away to let her compose herself and jumped in the shower.

My dear sweet husband came down to see if he could make things better with Ellen, leaving the sliced up chicken on the cutting board...

He returned a few minutes later to the kitchen to find his 10 month old boxer had gotten up to the counter and eaten all the raw, sliced up chicken!! [can you say sal-ma-nilaaaaaa]

Kid still screaming, and now the dog had eaten what was to be our dinner!!

Brett was not having a very good afternoon....  but I give him credit for trying

"Hello Tony's?  Yes, I'd like 2 calzones to go please... "
