Ivy
I dropped Ellen off with my mom Sunday afternoon so that she could swim with her while I had a jumping lesson.
Later that afternoon, my mom told me she put some itch cream on that rash on her arm.
???
She wakes up with spider bites often. I had noticed the red splotch on her forearm, but she was not bothered by it, so I assumed it was just a bite mark. I mean who are we kidding, I'm raising 'Nell' anyway... the way the kid runs around naked in the back yard, squatting down hunting for bugs while she sings made up songs or honks... her whole body looks like a battle field.
So we checked it out, and noticed it on her hand and most of her left arm. She woke up Monday morning and said, "Mom I need that pink stuff." [calamine lotion]
I waited for the Doctor's office to open then brought her in. Neither my husband nor myself have ever had poison ivy , so we didn't know anything about it. My mother had stated Sunday that that's what she had, but we wanted the professional opinion, plus I assumed they would give me medication for such a thing.
She sat very still as the doctor examined her and Ellen told her what symptoms she had. Fifteen minutes after entering the Dr.'s office it was confirmed. Benedryl 3 times a day and Calamine Lotion. Slap on the ass and we were out the door and on our way to Rite Aid for supplies.
My kids a trooper. She has not complained. Not put up any fight. She stands like a statue with her arms out as we coat her in pink and waits for it to dry. You would not know she was suffering from any kind of rash at all.
The Dr. said possibly 8 weeks... lord I hope not.
It is spreading a little bit each day, but we are trying to stay diligent.
Every time we apply the Calamine and I call it "the Lotion" though, I get flash backs to Silence Of The Lambs.
