Drop Off

Yesterday the school bus forgot to drop my 4 year old daughter off....

The school bus has been my most stressful part of her starting Universal Pre-K.  She's one of the first stops though and every one convinced me she'd be fine.

I laid in bed the night before school started and pictured her sitting all alone in the front seat with her hands in her lap, looking around, taking it all in, maybe even singing to her self.  No cares in the world.  I'd be sweating sitting alone, but not Ellie.  She really needs no one.

We hung our green balloon on the mailbox like we were instructed, to let the driver know a small one would be getting off there.  We waited in the driveway like instructed...  she disembarked just fine. - on day 1!

Day two... the bus stopped and let the neighbor boy off, then is accelerated towards our house... then it accelerated some more!  I saw Ellie inside as it kept speeding up and headed on down the road!  I yelled, and started waving my arms.... walking briskly.  Finally, "Brett, go catch that bus!"  and he began to jog.

Thank goodness for the stop sign 50 yards from our home... and thank goodness for Traffic!!  Finally he spotted us, and backed the bus up.  Ellen climbed down the steps giggling as the driver apologized again and again.

This will not happen again.  I will stand in the road from this day forward.

I asked Ellen if she was scared at all, she said no, she wanted to see what the whole bus ride was like.  oh joy.

Today on the way to school I played bus driver as she practiced yelling, "Stop!  I get off here!!"

[ gee, day one of school was followed by an ATV Accident, Day two the bus forgot to drop her off... kind of afraid of what today will bring ]
