Smash Mouth Hunters

Saturday night I told someone - "Michelle meticulously grooms herself before every show. Sure, no one likes hair stubble w/ breeches, but that's not her motivation - nope... its for the sole reason that there's a pretty good chance she'll end up in the ER at any point throughout the day! : D "

Ironically the next morning in the warm up pen, as I finally decided to open my gelding up and move down the lines for the right strides... well.  I got a beautiful 4 in the outside line.  However as I took my first fence I saw the entire thing flash before my eyes.  I knew what was happening next, but again, I could NOT stop it.  You can't stop when you are barreling down the line!

A little brown horse trotted right in front of me as I landed the second fence.  We took one stride and BOOM!   His chest hit her square in the hind quarters.  I was already up in my stirrups so when he threw his head up on impact, I smacked my mouth on his poll.  HARD.

My friends all came to make sure I was okay... the general consensus was, all my teeth were still there.  They just felt moved back just a lil bit.

Ouch.

I should have quit there.

The rest of my riding was not horrible, but it wasn't pretty either.

The best part was that I ... me who has only been off course about 3 times in 27 years in the hunter ring...went the wrong was twice out of 4 trips!

What's up with that!?!?!

I also subtracted strides (me who usually crawls thru my lines) and dragged hind leads!  Who is this girl on the horse?????

I was a hot mess....

Not a good show at all for me.

oh well - you live and you learn.  Next one will be better!
