Awaiting

AWAITING
There Awaiting;

Nervously he perspires,
Heart beating fast.
Steps into the shoot,
To watch time slowly pass.

Tense memorizing,
Taking it slow.
That horse finishes,
Now it’s his turn to show.
Rounding the pen,
His courtesy circle so,
So full of poise,
With rhythm they flow.
Down the first line,
Deep to the first fence with a tuck,
Knees brought high,
The horse saved him, his luck.
Finishing the course,
With the elegance of the sport.
For he knew he had won,
On a champion of a horse.
